What does an Acupuncture treatment consist of?

First, a diagnosis is determined using:

  1. A thorough interview inquiring about the body’s functioning
  2. Palpation of the Pulses, Abdomen, Meridians and Points
  3. Visual observation of the tongue, the eyes, the posture, etc.

With a diagnosis, a treatment principle is formulated. With a treatment principle, the proper tools and techniques and dosages are then decided. The treatment is then performed. Afterward, a treatment plan or course of treatments is discussed with the patient. Depending on the extent of the illness or disease, a course of treatments can be as few as 3 or 4 to as many as 30. During the actual treatment, the techniques are performed which should elicit a comforting feeling to the patient. Inserted acupuncture needles shouldn’t hurt, heat therapy should just turn the skin pink, everything should promote relaxation. The Initial Assessment and Treatment will take under two hours due to the initial interview process. Follow-up sessions are 1 hour or less.

What Can You Expect After a Treatment

You can expect to experience changes up to 72 hours after the treatment. Many people experience immediate relief while for others it may require a few days or a few treatments before symptoms begin to subside. After the Treatment. Stay warm and relaxed for the rest of the day if possible. You’ll derive maximum benefit if you allow the treatment to “soak in”. Avoid any chill wind and try to eat something warm and nourishing. Drink some extra water that day to assist the body in flushing any toxins released by treatment.
